HOSTED by our friends at Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera, the annual Women and Fair Trade Festival is here for One Day Only, Saturday December 3, 2022 from 10 AM to 6 PM at First Unitarian Universalist Church on 4700 Grover Ave, Austin, TX 78756.
The Women and Fair Trade Event is an annual marketplace hosting artisan products made by women’s cooperatives from all over the world.
This is an Austin-based community event intended to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of society and represents an alternative to corporate globalization.
Why shop “fair trade” at the holidays? As noted on this website — Fair Trade is a global movement that puts people and the planet first by ensuring fair practices and living wages for workers, producers, and sellers of all consumer goods. For women in the global economy, fair trade assures that the first producer, like the laborer who sewed our clothes or assembled a part of the goods we buy, or the person who grew the coffee bean for the coffee we drink, earns enough to support a family and to afford adequate shelter, utilities, groceries, clothing, education, and health care.
Start your day at WFT 2022 by listening to the great music of The Therapy Sisters, performing on Saturday as “Las Gaba Cha-Chas!”
Finally, hear KOOP’s Allan Cambpell interview with Josefina Castillo of ATCF and Elvia Arriola of Women on the Border on the topics of labor conditions at the US-Mexico border and free trade v. fair trade.
