Mission

Factory worker

Women on the Border’s mission is to raise awareness of the impact of U.S. and global policies and practices that strip the universal human rights and affect living conditions of women, gender minorities, people of color, workers, indigenous peoples, immigrants, and youth. We support movements to reclaim and construct human dignity and justice for all.

Who We Are

Women on the Border is committed to advancing public awareness of the impact of U.S. free trade and immigration law and policy at the border on women and other vulnerable groups. We engage with local and cross-border communities through educational delegations, events and fundraising, and provide access to up-to-date information through our website and social media platforms.

Our Board members are all volunteers. We are writers, teachers, organizers, academics, lawyers and activists.  We believe strongly in the value of education.

Twenty years ago we recognized the value of the internet for advancing public education about the impact of NAFTA on women in the maquiladoras.

Beginning in 2017 our commitment to social justice education became stronger as new humanitarian and economic issues arose because of the expanding militarized border wall and immigration jails alongside a continuing corporate driven effort to renegotiate NAFTA.

Today we believe more strongly than ever the need to harness the many platforms for online information, community, and empowerment through knowledge.
