This webinar will be hosted by our friends at Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera.   It is a bilingual event featuring the activist women of the Comité Fronterizo de Obrer@s who have been involved with GEMA, the gender empowerment workshops for women in the maquiladoras. 

More on the Webinar from the announcement by Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera: 

“Women Workers Building Power” will focus on the CFO (Border Committee of Workers) and their work on gender empowerment at the Texas/Mexico border. Their program, GEMA (Gender & Empowerment of Women towards Action), began in 2013 and continues to the present day. It includes 6 modules per year for women maquiladora workers in three border towns. Speakers will also discuss new additions to the Mexican Labor Law related to gender.

“Trabajador@s construyendo el poder” trata sobre el CFO (Comité Fronterizo de Obrer@s) y su trabajo hacia el empoderamiento de género en la frontera entre Texas y México. Su programa, GEMA (Género y empoderamiento de las mujeres para la acción), comenzó en 2013 y continúa hasta la actualidad. Incluye 6 módulos por año para trabajadoras de las maquiladoras en tres ciudades fronterizas. Las presentadoras también hablarán sobre las nuevas adiciones a la Ley Federal de Trabajo relacionadas con el género.

*We will also have a poetry reading by mónica teresa ortiz, a poet born and raised in Texas.  También tendremos una lectura de poesía de Mónica Teresa Ortiz, una poeta nacida y criada en Texas.
