Renowned photojournalist David Bacon  is known for using photography to humanize the realities of life on the U.S.-Mexican border.   His work beautifully highlights the tragedies most people don’t see behind the persistent rhetoric that America needs bigger, stronger and more militarized border walls. The people we see in a photo and story, like an asylum seeker and her children, or a migrant laborer in search of honest work, or a frustrated maquiladora worker, reveal the problems with existing law and policy defining life in the borderlands. His books, like Illegal People, directly confront how the globalized corporate and political interests not only contribute to the forces that cause waves of migration, but also to the dehumanizing rhetoric which sees the immigrant not as a person with a life, hopes and dreams but instead as an invader or criminal.

In February, 2023 at the University of Texas at Austin Moody School of Communications,Moody Fellow Professional in Residence David Bacon  presented a slideshow on his new book (published by Colegio de la Frontera), More than a Wall/Mas Que Un Muro.
