Fuerza Unida was founded in 1990, following an overnight shutdown of the Levi Strauss jeans factory in San Antonio leaving hundreds of workers without jobs and unable to meet the daily needs of food and housing.  The mostly immigrant women working at the three Levi Strauss manufacturing plants turned to organizing for justice, community and empowerment.  They fought for severance pay and recognized that together they could do more for themselves and their communities.  The organization continues to this day with activities and educational programs aimed at empowering immigrant workers and their families.  Fuerza Unida staff bring products linked to their Threads of Justice program.
