During the Trump era (2017-2020), corporations that profit from detention, especially those at the U.S.-Mexico border did very well.

Mr. Trump is running again for a second presidency.  His allies have put together an agenda known as Project 25 to support his vision, including one to build mass detention camps for migrants.

On July 14, 2024 the candidate survived an assassination attempt.

Sympathy gestures have included dismissal of the lawsuit brought by the Department of Justice against Mr. Trump for unlawful possession of classified documents at his home in Florida after he left office.

During the first Trump administration the world saw family and child separations, asylum applicants treated like criminals, ICE raids in the neighborhood. This time he promises deployment of the military.

Not surprisingly, sympathy gestures post the assassination attempt have emerged as a  rise in market stocks for public prison corporations.

No wonder the prison industries want him back.
